The Firestone R4Tech suspension system is for heavy-duty pickup trucks. It's patented hybrid air-over-leaf setup offers the Ultimate in axle control. By adding an Air Spring in conjunction with lower-rated leaf springs, the unloaded ride is greatly improved. The air springs' adjustability keeps the vehicle capable of the same load capacity at GVW. The R4Tech allows most of the advantages of a full air suspension to be realized without requiring significant modifications to the truck.
The suspension fits into the existing leaf spring hangers and is All Bolt-On. With the R4Tech suspension installed, you can expect greatly improved ride and handling with the ability to kneel the rear suspension down about 5 inches for easier trailer hook-up or loading. The whole setup weighs about 140 pounds less than the original leaf springs on a 1 ton truck - this will translate into saving money on fuel. The patented lower link and J-Spring stop axle windup and reduce brake hop/axle shudder under heavy loaded acceleration.
Includes load-adaptive shocks that vary their stiffness based on the air spring pressure. More load equates to more pressure in the air springs and more control from the shocks. The system has a height-controlled automatic leveling system, which is calibrated to the truck's ride height at the time of installation. When the truck is loaded, the R4Tech senses the truck sagging and turns on the compressor, filling the air springs to level the truck. When the truck is unloaded, it again senses the height change and releases air from the air bags.
The R4Tech kit includes everything you need to complete the installation. This includes the two lower-rated leaf springs, the trailing control link, spring and link mounting brackets, leaf spring perches, two air springs and air spring mounting brackets, two tuned shock absorbers, air compressor and pressure switch, 3 gallon air tank, mechanical leveling valves with kneel feature, all required tubing/fittings/hardware, and a pneumatic switch to activate the kneel feature.
